Benue State chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Abba Yaro, has charged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state to provide issue-based credible opposition rather than resorting to falsehood.
Comrade Yaro was reacting to media reports credited to PDP stakeholders at a meeting held in Makurdi.
Those quoted in the reports to have said Governor Samuel Ortom was a temporary, corrupt and witch hunting Governor included the PDP state chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the immediate past Governor, Dr. Gabriel Suswam, and former Internal Affairs Minister, Comrade Abba Moro.
The APC state chairman maintained that the earlier the PDP realized that gone were the days when it played God and could subject the people to its whims and caprices were over, the better for that party.
He said Governor Ortom who was duly elected by the overwhelming majority of the people of the state would complete his renewable mandate to the letter and that all attempts by the opposition to subvert his genuine mandate would fail just like all the strategies employed to stop his election.
The chairman stated that the Governor was transparent and accountable to the people by making full disclosure about his income and expenditure a practice that was alien to the previous administration.
He said his party has never circulated any propaganda against the former Governor and that if any reports accused him of wife battery they emanated from those places he sought refuge adding that if the party knew he had gone to seek medical attention it would prayed for his quick recovery and wished him well.
Comrade Yaro said the Ortom administration was not witch hunting anyone but seeking to find out why and how the state had been brought to its kneels in order to set records straight and recover what had been diverted or converted to other purposes other than those for which it was intended.
According to him no one was above the law and that anyone called to account for whatever reason by the law enforcement agencies should not consider such as witch hunt but a normal process to establish culpability or otherwise.
He said the PDP frittered away the goodwill of the people and cited instances where the fate of medical students who had stagnated for 12 years and the School of Nursing and Midwifery which had its accreditation withdrawn did not matter to the previous administration which spent hundreds of millions on the celebration of the birthday of its leader.
Comrade Yaro stated that the above coupled with Ministers with history of gunrunning and tragic recruitment exercises as well as a catalogue of maladministration led to the massive rejection of that party and its leaders some of who suffered personal defeat at the polls.
Comrade Abba Yaro,
Benue State APC chairman.
