The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has pledged greater collaboration with the Benue State Government to ensure sanity on the highways within the state.
The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi stated this today when he led other officers to pay a courtesy call on Governor Samuel Ortom at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
He said the manner in which people mount blockblocks to reduce speed by motorists on Nigerian highways runs contrary to FRSC’s mandate.
Doctor Oyeyemi stated that the decision by some communities to place logs of wood and stones on highways as speedbreakers is responsible for many road crashes across the country and ought to be replaced.
The Corps Marshal said the agency would soon introduce plastic speedbreakers which have been tested and found to be a reliable solution for overspeeding.
Doctor Oyeyemi who commended Governor Samuel Ortom for achieving so much with little resources, acknowledged plans by the Benue State Government to establish a state Traffic Management Agency and assured that the FRSC Academy would train the personnel and integrate them on the platform of the corps.
He promised to assist the State Government to install traffic lights at all intersections within the metropolis, nothing that already safety engineers were being mobilised for the project.
Responding, Governor Ortom thanked the Federal Road Safety Corps for taking proactive measures towards saving lives and pledged the support of the Benue State Government to the Corps to do more.
The Governor was installed State by the FRSC Corps Marshall as the Grand Patron of the Corps Marshalls in Benue.
