In its efforts to attract investment, the Benue State government plans to organize an investors’ forum in Makurdi, the state capital.
Governor Samuel Ortom made the disclosure today in Abuja when he hosted the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Gu Xiaojie, at the Benue State Governor’s Lodge.
“We’re looking at the framework and if all goes well as planned it’ll hold in August, 2015,” he stated.
“We’ll invite investors to come and look at the potentials that we have and discuss with them the possibilities of investing and harnessing them.
He said the state was ready to partner with China in the provision of critical infrastructure and industrialization.
“The good thing with China is that they cut your coat according to your cloth; if you have small money the Chinese can provide the machinery that can do that small thing with good results, if you have big money then go for large scale,” he stressed.
The Governor pledged that as soon as he finished with the issue of salaries he would source funds and pay debts owed the Chinese firm that constructed water works in the state so that they could execute other water projects.
In his response the Ambassador stated that as a policy the embassy encourages Chinese companies to exploit opportunities at the state level and expressed happiness that the state was already doing business with some of the firms.
“Benue is rich in natural resources, you’re not short of water and you produce the best fruits in Nigeria, there’s a lot we can do together,” he said.
