Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, Mr. Terver Akase has attributed the wave of defections from the All Progressives Congress, APC to failure by government at the centre to protect lives and property of Nigerians.
He spoke today during a Radio Benue audience participatory programme “Issues of the Moment.”
Mr. Akase stated that apart from security challenges bedeviling the country under the APC administration, Nigerians were not faring well economically.
He noted that Governor Ortom’s defection from the APC was victory for Benue people as they had long desired that the Governor left a party that could not help him to protect his people against external aggression.
Mr. Akase said Governor Ortom had become a free man and more should be expected from him by people of the state.
Other guests who featured on the programme were a youth activist, Mr. Terrence Kuanum and Pastor Dave Ogbole.
Mr. Kuanum wondered why a Senate President would be invited by the Police on the allegation that a vehicle with his inscription was sighted at the scene of a robbery while those who came out to claim responsibility for killings could not be interrogated by security agencies.
Callers on the programme including Lawrence Damkor and Coach Fidelis Antyumbe said Governor Ortom’s defection from the APC was the right decision, stressing that he couldn’t have continued to be friends with enemies of his people.
