Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State, Chief Dr. Samuel Ortom, has charged members of the party in the state not to waste time and resources on council polls planned by the current administration.
He spoke at the expanded executive committee meeting of the party held at the Smile View Hotel, in Makurdi.
Chief Dr. Ortom stated that the planned council polls were deliberately being organized to make members of the party to waste time and resources on them so as to lose concentration on the general elections.
The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment advised stakeholders of the party to choose all candidates for the polls through consensus so as to minimize expenses.
He charged them to channel their efforts at winning the forthcoming elections rather than the council polls which he said were usually won by the party that controlled the state.
Leader of the party in the state, Senator Dr. George Akume appealed to the members to work together in the overall interest of the party which he said was greater than any individual or group.
The Senate Minority Leader lamented the inability of the ruling party in the country to secure lives and property pointing out that instead of channeling military might to fighting insurgency in the North East displays of such was made in the streets whenever anti-people decisions like the shift in polls were taken.
He likened the postponement of the elections to a headmaster shifting the examinations he was conducting because his son was not prepared while his classmate, the son of a farmer, was ready.
One of the aggrieved governorship aspirants of the party, Professor Steve Ugbah, who was the toast at the meeting urged members to close ranks and endeavor to carry everyone on board.
