Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, yesterday hosted a dinner and command performance for the legal team which handled the case between him and the defeated government candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Terhemen Tarzoor.
Speaking during the dinner which took place at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, Governor Ortom described the legal team comprising mostly Benue born lawyers as one of the best in the country.
He said the lawyers had proved during the legal tussle that the state does not need to look beyond its shores to get a legal team to defend it whenever cases arise.
“I am immensely grateful to all of you. We cannot reward you for your sacrifices in ensuring that this administration continues to execute the mandate given to it by the people. Consider this government as your own. Be free to make input anytime so that together, we can take our state to the next level of development,” he said.
Governor Ortom expressed confidence that the current economic challenges affecting the state will be over and his administration will fulfil its promises to the people.
Responding, leader of the legal team, Sebastine Hon, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, dedicated the Supreme Court victory to God and the people of the state.
“This victory is for Benue people. The hard work has paid off. Our Governor, you have a vision, we have shared the vision and we must build upon this victory to make Benue greater”, he stated.
Hon emphasised that neither the Governor nor the legal team influenced the judgment from the tribunal to the Supreme Court, saying that the case was determined on its merit which was an affirmation of the votes of the people.
He called on the people of the state to support Governor Ortom to continue to deliver on his promises.
