Former Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Benue State, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, today assured his supporters that he would contest and win primaries on PDP platform.
He made the disclosure at a meeting with major stakeholders of his governorship project across the state which was held at the Smile View Hotel, in Makurdi.
Chief Dr Ortom stated that he took the option following discussions with leaders of the party in the Presidency, the National Secretariat, as well as the Senate President, Senator David Mark and Governor Gabriel Suswam.
The former Minister stated that the leaders assured him that they would address his concerns and reservations and ensure that a level playing field was provided for all aspirants.
He stated that although several political parties had offered him alternative platforms he decided to contest the election in the PDP on account of his long standing contributions to the growth of the party, the various leadership roles it had given him, relationship with members, and the assurance he received from its leaders.
Chief Dr Ortom expressed appreciation to the leadership of the other parties for their kind gesture of extending a hand of fellowship to him and urged that politicians should continue to interact and dialogue among themselves in order to promote peaceful existence.
He reiterated that power belonged to God who gave it to whosoever He wanted noting that if given the mandate his administration would entrench core values such as transparency, justice, honesty, equity, selflessness, accountability, fairness, forgiveness and reconciliation which he said would enhance unity and development.
In separate responses spokesmen for the three senatorial districts in the state, as well as women and youths, chiefs Michael Iduma, Aloysius Wuam, Dr Adzer Abya, Dan Nyikwagh, and Mrs Theresa Bai, applauded Chief Dr Ortom’s decision and pledged support.
