Governor Samuel Ortom has stated that the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore must be made to account for the over 500 lives lost to herdsmen attacks on Benue communities.
He spoke today during an interdenominational church service to mark the 2018 democracy day celebration, held at the Christ Apostolic Church, Zonal headquarters Makurdi.
The Governor said Benue state government had instituted a legal action against Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and expressed belief that even if the the leaders are not arrested, Benue would get justice in the court.
Speaking on complaints by some civil servants who had been allegedly shortchanged by the Abouno-led committee on verification of workers, Governor Ortom said no genuine worker would be victimized in the process.
He congratulated Benue people for their courage and resilience and prayers to reach the land of Canaan, even as he also wished Nigerian children a happy 2018 Children’s Day celebration.
In a remark, chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Benue state chapter, Reverend Akpen Leva said the church in the state would reject politicians who do not have the interest of Benue people at heart.
He prayed God to grant Governor Ortom brighter ideas to continue to pilot affairs of the state.
In a sermon, Bishop Edward King charged leaders at all levels to stick to the values of faithfulness, loyalty and honesty, stressing that by so doing, the society would be a better place to live in.
He opined that the church developed a curriculum where aspiring leaders would be trained on the act of governance just the way priests and other servants of God were trained in order to have a better society.
