Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Benue State, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, has charged Nigerians, particularly Benue State citizens, to have faith that God could give them the capacity to turn the current gloom in the state into a boom in the years ahead.
In his 2014 Christmas message Chief Dr Ortom stated that the annual celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ was a reminder of God’s intervention in human affairs and a reaffirmation of the fact that His presence in any situation makes a positive difference.
He stressed that the current reality where most families in the state could neither afford a decent meal nor any basic form of merriment for members, neighbors, and friends on account of the harsh economic environment at this season calls for soul searching and sober reflections on the choices available to change the situation for the better.
The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade, and Investment, said at the personal level the acceptance of Christ and his teachings could transform lives and engender peaceful coexistence in the society while the adult citizens have the power to change things for the better through the ballot.
Chief Dr Ortom commended the people of the state for their resilience in the face of difficulties and appealed to them to avail themselves of the opportunity for change offered by the APC.
He pledged that if given the mandate he would tackle unemployment and the attendant poverty and security implications through Industrialization, attraction of investment into the state as well as boosting of commercial activities.
The former Minister stated that other components of his agenda included provision of good governance and revenue security, relevant education and affordable health care as well as investment in critical infrastructure.
He said he would anchor his administration on the fear of God who would give him wisdom for state craft and enable him entrench the core values of transparency, selflessness, accountability, fairness, justice, honesty, forgiveness and reconciliation which shall engender unity, peace and development of the state.
Chief Dr Ortom wished the people peaceful celebrations and happy new year.
