Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom today announced the expansion of the Ministry of Works and Transport with the addition of power.
He made the disclosure at a reception to mark his victory at the Supreme Court held at the IBB Square in Makurdi.
“The ministry of works and Transport shall be given the additional mandate of power and energy as a way of refocusing on needed power supply for our economic development and emancipation”, he stated.
“The Ministry shall become Ministry of Works, Transport and Energy.”
Governor Ortom maintained that there was no victor, nor vanquished as his victory was for all Benue people irrespective of creed and political affiliation.
“The challenge before us is how to pull our state out of ignorance, poverty and disease”, he said.
He advocated the need to think beyond the box in efforts to diversify the economy in order to boost internally generated revenue.
The Governor assured that his administration was committed to conducting free, fair and credible council polls before the end of the second quarter of the year.
In separate goodwill messages, State chairman of the All Congress, APC, Comrade Aba Yaro, Messrs Vincent Uji, Akange Audu, Hassan Mohammed, Comrade David Onjeh, Mrs Helen Bendega, Senator Barnabas Gemade, and Tersoo Baki expressed appreciation to God for the victory and urged the people to be united.
It will be recalled that the Supreme Court last Friday dismissed the appeal of the defeated governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Terhemen Tarzoor on the ground that he lacked the locus standi to challenge the nomination of Governor Ortom in the APC.
