Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has expressed the condolences of the government and people of the state on the passage of the matriarch of the Obafemi Awolowo family, Chief Mrs. Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, yesterday.
Governor Ortom who expressed sadness at the gradual depletion of the ranks of revered elderly Nigerians however stated that as a Christian the Bible maintained that “pleasant in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saint,’’ adding that all must one day be reunited with the creator.
According to him, the legacies left by the deceased and her husband, the late Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo which included entrepreneurship, committed service in the legal profession and politics, free education, patriotism and family values will be remembered by the present and future generations.
The Governor stated that the government and people of Benue State cherished the relationship between the late Senator Joseph Sarwuan Tarka and the late Awolowo and their commitment to a progressive and better country and urged Nigerians to emulate them.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased and for God to grant her family, the government and people of Ogun State, as well as all Nigerians the fortitude to bear the loss which he described as irreparable.
