Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, panel that conducted the primaries of the party In Benue State in 2014, Barrister Baba Dala today submitted that Governor Ortom met all the requirements of the party to be its governorship candidate.
He made the submission while testifying before the Governorship Election Tribunal in Makurdi.
Barrister Dala submitted that Governor Ortom requested and obtained a waiver from the National Working Committee of the party and was duly included on the list of governorship aspirants for the primaries scheduled for 10th and 11th of December, 2014.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Sebastian Hon, led Barrister Bala to give his evidence.
The chairman of the panel who identified the letter granting Governor Ortom waiver stated that the party adopted him as its consensus governorship candidate in accordance with its constitution, guidelines and what was required to fulfil the Electoral Act.
He said the Governor had satisfied all requirements of the party and the Act.
Barrister Hon tendered 10 documents including the APC constitution to support the submission and all were accepted.
The third respondent, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, associated itself with the submission of APC which is the second respondent.
Governor Ortom, the first respondent had closed his case yesterday.
Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Elizabeth Karatu adjourned proceedings to September 7, 2015 for adoption of written addresses.
