Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Mr. Terver Akase says the ongoing persecution of his principal won’t distract him from his stewardship for the state.
He gave the assurance today at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi while answering questions from newsmen on the freezing and unfreezing of the state government accounts as well as other recent political developments in the state.
Mr Akase said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Department of State Service, DSS and the Nigeria Police have no polling units in Benue and so their actions would not in any way affect the reelection bid of Governor Samuel Ortom.
The Chief Press Secretary noted that the action of the EFCC had no legal backing as both the freezing and unfreezing of the accounts were done without a court order.
According to him, the action of the security operatives was a demonstration of the high level of impunity in the land.
Mr. Akase stated that Governor Ortom has no skeleton in his cupboard and so is not afraid of probe, stressing however that investigating the Governor’s security vote without starting with that of the presidency amounts to muscling the opposition.
He urged the EFCC not to allow itself to be used as an attack dog against the opposition in the country, disclosing that the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC had also been threatening to sanction Radio Benue on allegations of biased reportage.
The Chief Press Secretary also charged the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to tell Nigerians how much it had spent on security operations including the fight against Boko Haram, Operations Python Dance, Crocodile Smile, Whirl Stroke and Lafiya Dole.
