Residents of Adeke have commended Governor Samuel Ortom for embarking on the construction of the Mobile Police Barracks road linking them with other parts of Makurdi metropolis.
In separate interviews, they listed increased accessibility, commercial activities, value on land and security as some of the benefits already manifesting even while the project was on-going.
Kindred head of Genabe, Chief Daniel Iorbee Lada and All Progressives Congress, APC, youth leader in the area, Sabastine Ashiwar, led the residents to express appreciation to Governor Ortom.
Others who spoke included Oragba Igwen and his wife Veronica, Ama Deke, Isaac Iorhemen, Akoodo Gwabo, William Ihungul, Shimba Akombo and Vitalis Hur also expressed similar appreciation.
“The new road is fast bringing development to our area and we appreciate Governor Ortom for carrying out the project which other governors promised but couldn’t deliver,” he stated.
“Security operatives can now have easy access to intervene in case of emergency and crises, even as the road has opened our entire area and increased business activities while the people can evacuate their farming produce to markets.”
Chief Lada stated that if Governor Ortom would go for a second term he will get his peoples support.
“I’m happy with the development and it’s clear to us that God has given us Ortom to liberate us from the shackles of poverty by constructing this important road. The youth of the area are happy as even okada business is thriving. We wish him to continue in 2019,” Mr. Ashiwar, the youth leader stated.
“The speed and quality of work is commendable and extraordinary as the road was flagged off on the 24th of March, 2016 and within one month construction has gone very far. When we see the road, we express appreciation to Governor Ortom who God has inspired to start the construction which has now eased our pains of going to other parts of Makurdi and expanded the scope of the town as Adeke which is now easily linked with other parts of the metropolis. Staff of the Ministry of Works, Transport and Energy who supervise the work are diligent and dedicated. The Works Commissioner comes to site regularly, I’m impressed at the directive of the resident engineer, Phelim Manger that the proper thing must be done and the excavation on a particular portion of the road should reach the required depth.”
“I’m filled with excitement and I have to praise Ortom. This is the first time a Governor has done a wonderful thing to our community. Governors handle only township roads like Inikpi, Awe, and other township roads within the state capital. With the construction of the road Adeke is now a new city, there is influx of people to this area. This is our Judges Quarters – tell Ortom ahead, ahead, 2019; he will do second term and become Senator. The opposition has been silenced. Our place is very lively now. I used to regret and blame my husband for dumping me here as the main road has been abandoned because of its impassability. The contractors are wonderful; God brought them specifically for him. Since 1999, motorcycles used to drop people coming to Adeke by Naka road, at the moment even buses have started coming to Adeke and the work on the road has speed and quality.”
“Our hardship was much. I’ve been here since 1999 and I’ve not seen this type of development. I’m a sharp sand supplier but couldn’t deliver on account of the bad road, now my business has a big boost.”
Isaac Iorhemen, alias Yellow
“It’s like a dream to us – can it be true? We used to be cut off. We don’t sleep, we watch the road endlessly.”
“This government is too much for me. You are aware of the rocks on the road before, now I ply my motorcycle with ease… this road is for our future, it’s better than sharing cash to us.”
“The road project has eased transportation problems of our area as before it was difficult for me to access the federal highway from Adeke. It is now easy for me to move to and come back home with ease. I thank Governor Ortom for the project and pray God to increase his capacity and help him to overcome other challenges.”
“The road project has opened up the area where transportation, business and farming activities are thriving. I thank Governor Ortom for finding it worthy to invest in the construction of this road which previous governments failed to do. The road project has improved social interaction between the people of the area with those in other parts of Makurdi.”
“With what I see happening, I see Ortom doing two terms and going to Abuja.”
