Governor Gabriel Suswam’s advance party of armed youths has destroyed campaign property of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in several settlements in Ukum and Buruku local government areas of Benue State.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that before his visits to communities in Ukum last Monday armed youths stormed Tinenune around three in the morning and razed the main APC campaign office and destroyed flags and posters at two others.
A carpenter who had his workshop in the same building with one of the offices, Mr Tiseer Surma, said he lost all his tools and property of clients estimated at N300,000.
The hoodlums who always travelled ahead of the governor during his senatorial campaign also pulled down APC symbols, flags and posters in Jootar, Mbaakav, Gyemwase and Gbagir that day.
Villagers stated that the the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, youths also attacked the solar – powered borehole recently inaugurated by Senator Barnabas Gemade at the LGEA Primary School, Mbaamena near Zaki-Biam, pulled down APC symbols and poured an unknown substance into the overhead tanks.
According to them the attack took place while Governor Suswam’s convoy had a stopover at the place.
Last Tuesday when Governor Suswam visited Logo local government area the same team travelled ahead and destroyed APC offices in Ikyume, Awuapila, Jingali, and Iorchor settlements of Buruku.
Those who witnessed the destruction in the affected areas state that the youths came in several buses and an ash colored Hillux pick up van ahead of the governor and pulled down APC flags, posters and burnt them before his convoy passed.
They said the destroyers fired gunshots to scare away APC supporters who were around before proceeding with their acts.
Several people who witnessed what happened stated that the hoodlums said they didn’t want the Governor to see any other party’s symbol especially along the road he had constructed and in the Sankera area.
Directors from the Ortom/Abounu Governorship Campaign Organization, Messrs Denen Igbana, and Tahav Agerzua, visited the affected places to ascertain the extent of damage.
It could be recalled that the All Progressives Congress, APC, Labour Party, LP, and Peoples Democratic Party, recently signed a pact to maintain peace before, during and after the 2015 polls in the state.
