The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai has commended the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, for taking security initiatives that have stabilised the state.
General Buratai spoke during a courtesy call on Governor Ortom today at the Benue People’s House Makurdi.
According to the Chief of Army Staff, the Governor’s efforts have enhanced peace in Benue and neighbouring states.
He said he was on a tour of military formations in the state to ascertain facilities and conditions of men of the Nigerian army.
The army chief urged the people of the state to be vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies, adding that with the routing of Boko Haram in the North East, the terrorists have been forced to relocate to other areas.
Lieutenant General Buratai appreciated the existing harmonious relationship between civilians and the military in Benue State saying challenges will be addressed an put behind.
In his response, Governor Ortom commended the army for its role in securing lives and property in the state.
He appealed for compensation for victims of the recent military attacks on civilians in the North Bank area of Makurdi, as well as sanctions on those found culpable.
Governor Ortom paid tribute to officers and men of the armed forces who had paid the supreme sacrifice for the country.
The Governor presented a traditional attire to the Chief of Army Staff.
