<< FRCN report from Emmanuel Gwaza >>>
Today the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Terver Akase, received a text message from an excited senior citizen from Konshisha local government area expressing delight for being paid his pension.
This confirmed a recent network report from Emmanuel Gwaza of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Harvest FM, Makurdi, which was aired from the Abuja studio.
” A report from Benue State says 2, 193 local government retirees have started receiving their entitlements after several years of non-placement on pension.
Most of the beneficiaries are those who left the service after six years.
The payment of the senior citizens was made possible following the release of N200 million by Governor Samuel Ortom.
The Governor’s gesture was to ameliorate the suffering of the pensioners who always visited him to lay their complaints.
For about two weeks now the local government pensioners have been smiling to the banks to cash their money.
One of them, Mr Michael Vembeh, who was seen at a commercial bank waiting to withdraw his money told Radio Nigeria that the first batch of retirees from 2009-2013 and that of 2015 were also considered.
Another retiree, Mr Daniel Kusugh, commended the Governor for coming to their rescue and appealed to him to sustain the payment to enable them clear a backlog of financial problems.
When contacted, Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Professor John Ortyoyande, said Governor Ortom had already promised to continue with the payment stressing that the current pay was the first allotment.
Professor Ortyoyande maintained that all retirees who had complaints due to wrong information forwarded to the Commission were being attended to with the objective of getting them paid.”
