The Benue State Governor-elect, Dr Samuel Ortom has congratulated Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari for his election as the new Chairman of Nigerian Governor’s Forum.
Similarly, Dr Ortom has also congratulated the Borno state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima for his appointment as the chairman of the Northern Governor’s Forum.
The governor-elect stated this in a statement issued in Abuja by his media team and expressed happiness that the crises that once polarised the forum over its leadership was resolved amicably, saying, “this is indeed a victory for our democracy and a sign that the change we voted for has began yielding results.”
According to him, “the position of Nigerian governors in the political evolution of the country is very critical and all stakeholders must ensure that the principles guiding it’s vision are jealously guarded and protected for the benefits of the people we govern.”
He pointed out that with the resolution of the crises that almost destroyed the confidence among its members and unanimously electing it’s leadership, “Nigerian governor’s have displayed high level of political maturity and a clear determination at building cohesion to fight the common ills of poverty, ignorance and economic stagnation threatening our growth as a nation.”
The Governor, who is also a former Minister of State, Trade and Investment, expressed optimism that with the polarisation of the NGF over, the body is now weaned of all encumberances and set to reposition itself for the immeasurable benefits of a peer review body. The Governor charged his colleagues to remain focused in sustaining the ideals which gave birth to the union for it to remain as the baston of good governance and leadership in the country.
Dr Ortom thanked the outgoing governors for redirecting the NGF by their maturity and invaluable contributions to the body and pledged the commitment of the governors-elect to build on this unity for the development of the country.
