Former chairman of Katsina-Ala local government area, Mr. Tsenongo Abancha, has assumed duties as the Director General of the Ortom Governorship Organization.
He takes over from Mr. Terwase Orbunde who had hitherto served in that capacity.
Mr. Orbunde, an experienced political strategist and governorship campaign veteran at one time led the George Akume Governorship Campaign Organization after he had served as a member of the House of Representatives for Kwande Federal Constituency.
The former Kwande local government caretaker chairman now serves as an adviser to the Ortom Governorship Organization.
Mr. Abancha who was born on 1st April, 1963 attended the NKST Primary School, Zaki-Biam, 1970-1976; and Government College, Katsina-Ala, 1976-1981.
Between 1982 and 1984 he was at the School of Basic Studies Makurdi after which he proceeded to the University of Jos and read Bachelor of Arts English from 1984 to 1987.
The new Director General obtained the Advanced Diploma in Public Administration at the Benue State University in 1994 as well as the Master of Public Administration of the same institution in 2010.
He is currently pursuing Master of Science, Public Administration at the Benue State University.
His rich working experience spans the public and private sectors.
During the mandatory National Youth Service Corps programme he served as a class teacher at the Ogun-Remo Secondary School, Sagamu in Ogun State in the 1987/1988 service year.
From 1990 to 1994 he was an employee of the defunct Peoples Bank where he rose from Programme Officer to Branch Manager of several branches.
Between 1999 and 2002 he served as elected Deputy Chairman of Katsina-Ala local government area and was eventually elected council chairman from 2004 to 2006 after a brief stint as caretaker chairman.
He served as Senior Special Assistant to Governors George Akume and Gabriel Suswam between 2006 and 2007 as well as 2008 and 2011 respectively.
In the political sphere he was Director of Media and Mobilization of the Suswam/Lawani Campaign Organization, Deputy Director, Zone A Senatorial Campaign Team as well as caucus member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zone A.
In the private sector he is the Managing Director, Luta Investment Limited, Makurdi as well as a Consultant to the Benue State Government on Entrepreneurship.
Mr. Abancha won the Nigeria Union of Journalists awards as Best Local Government Chairman in health, rural roads and bridges in 2006.
In that same year he was also the union’s best chairman in Zone A and third overall best chairman in the state.
The Senate Committee on States and Local Governments, This Week Magazine as well as The Nigerian Tribune, all nominated him as among the best 50 local government chairmen in Nigeria in 2006.
A member of several professional bodies, clubs and associations including Nigeria Institute of Corporate Administrators, Makurdi Club 1930, and Farmers’ Association of Nigeria, Mr. Abancha has visited many countries of the world.
Married with five children his hobbies include travelling, debate, and community mobilization.
