Our attention has been drawn to yet another failed attempt to tarnish the credibility of prominent members of the Samuel Ortom led APC government in Benue state.
This campaign of falsehood and calumny which is been powered by a failed and discredited politician with Aare Abiodun Oluwarotimi of the Nigerian Concord as the arrow-head has surprisingly taken a new turn with his attack now on a priest of the Catholic church.
In his latest publication, the mercenary whose stock in trade seems to be centred only on Benue state talked of an Abuja-based Catholic priest who allegedly raped a 10 year-old girl.
To flavour his story and achieve his aim of soiling the names of those in the Ortom government, the hired character assassin decided to bring in the personality of the state Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu, and tie him with the priest stating that the man is his spiritualist.
First, let it be known here that the Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu is a knight of John Wesley in the Methodist church. He neither knows nor has any dealing with the said Catholic priest who is said to be based in Abuja neither does he have a spiritualist of any kind as he is an orthodox Christian with the fear of God only.
Secondly, unlike the sponsor of the falsehood who depends on spiritualists, Engr Abounu does not deal with spiritualists and herbalists as he does not need them. This fact could be seen from the report which could not provide any evidence to back the assertion which is a blatant lie.
Additionally, Engr. Benson Abounu is not even aware of any priest been held talk less of making arrangements to free him from detention.
We are appalled at the height to which the reporter and his spin masters could go in their attempt to malign the government of Governor Samuel Ortom whose sin has been to demand a break from the Suswam era during which stealing of government money was accepted as an art people sought to perfect and patent.
It is very disheartening that the reporter has sold his soul in the pursuit of the pecuniary and has become the battle axe of those miserable little men that plundered the state and placed the people in a quagmire where we are today. Fortunately, Benue State cannot go back to the past.
We urge the people to disregard the report as a concoction of corruption fighting back.
