Benue State contingent to this year’s National Youth Games today left Makurdi for Ilorin, Kwara State, venue of the competition.
Twenty-four athletes from three sports made the trip with their Coaches and Secretaries.
Addressing the team before departure, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Lawrence Onoja, said it was the magnanimity of Governor Samuel Ortom and Government’s interest in youth development, which made the trip possible in the midst of current economic challenges and charged the athletes to make the event worth going.
Also speaking, Director of Sports, Benue State Council, Mr. Philip Nongu, said Benue’s participation in the youth games was a demonstration of Governor Ortom’s interest in sports development and urged the athletes to be good ambassadors of the State.
