The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State, Chief Dr. Samuel Ortom has stated that no amount of attacks on him and his campaign property will intimidate and distract him from the determination to win the elections even as he appealed to his supporters not to retaliate.
He spoke at his campaign headquarters in Makurdi yesterday evening while addressing supporters after inspecting damage caused by political hoodlums from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“The attacks have arisen out of fear which has made the ruling party to come out to intimidate, frustrate, smear and do all kinds of things to stop me but it’s already late, there’s no way anyone can stop our victory now which God had destined long ago,” he stated.
“But two wrongs cannot make a right, so don’t embark on reprisals because I don’t want this thing to escalate into crisis where people will begin to run helter-skelter in the present hardship.”
“The plan of the evil one is to find ways of eliminating me but my life is not in the hands of any human being; until the destiny of God on my life is fulfilled I’m not prepared to leave this earth and so they have no power over me,” Chief Dr. Ortom stressed.
He maintained that as law abiding citizens the matter has been reported to the police and that the State Police Commissioner personally visited the scene of the incidence.
The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment stressed that he had already received assurances from the Police, the State Security Services and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps that the culprits would be apprehended.
Chief Dr. Ortom stated that one of them has already been arrested.
“But it’s a shame to come and destroy the very place where we’re providing employment to over 400 people,” he said.
“As bad as the development is it has promoted our campaigns greatly.”
He said the same God who raised him from humble beginnings to great heights in human affairs was capable of making him Governor and urged the people not to be troubled but to rather have faith in divine providence.
Chief Dr. Ortom stated that there was no need to fight with anyone as according to him even most of PDP members know that he was the one with the formula to tackle the challenges of the state and were working for his victory at the polls.
