The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, has disclosed that he was ready for any court case and would willingly accept court papers any time, any day.
He made the disclosure today, 18th February, 2015 while answering questions from journalists at the NKST Church High Level, Makurdi after he had attended the ordination of pastors.
They had sought his views on the orders of the Makurdi Federal High Court today that he be served papers in a case instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against him.
Chief Dr Ortom stated that as a law abiding citizen who had committed no crime and has always played by the rules he was not scared of any litigation adding however, that no bailiff had approached him with any papers on the matter although he has been accessible all this time.
According to him his lawyers were also standing by to respond to any issues the PDP had raised in the suit once the papers in which their cause has been disclosed are received but wondered why they would institute a case against him when he had left that party.
The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade, and Investment drew the attention of the journalists to his recent statement in which he alerted members of the public about plans of the ruling party to attack him from several flanks.
He said these include litigation, physical attacks on him, his supporters and campaign offices as well as concerted smear, mischief and calumny targeted at intimidating him and dampening the spirit of APC and the electorate.
Chief Dr Ortom stated that the desperate measures arose from the dwindling electoral fortunes and imminent defeat awaiting the PDP at the forthcoming polls judging from the soaring popularity and acceptability of the APC throughout the state.
