The national organizing secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, has described Chief Dr. Samuel Ortom as a dutiful party man and an excellent team player. He made the characterization when the former Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, picked his governorship nomination forms at Wadata Plaza in Abuja.
Alhaji Mustapha who said the party was proud of Chief Dr Ortom assured of a level field for all aspirants noting however that power belonged to God who gave it to whosoever He wanted.
In his response the former Minister expressed appreciation to the party and President Goodluck Jonathan for the opportunies he had been given to serve at the state and the national levels pledging that he would always strive to justify the confidence reposed in him.
Addressing the press corps at the national secretariat, Chief Dr Ortom promised to partner with the organized private sector to exploit the natural resources of the state through industrialization.
He explained that he resigned from the Federal Executive Council so as to respond to calls from Benue people to serve them as governor pointing out that they said they wanted someone with his experience, exposure, and character who had contributed to the development of the state to serve them.
Chief Dr Ortom said from the positive responses he had received from people across the state he was confident that he would win the primaries and general election.
Answering questions he said if given the mandate he would evolve ways of reducing the financial burden of government by sharing responsibilities with other stakeholders and boosting the private sector such that there would be increased internally generated revenue for project execution and other vital functions.
