The Benue State Governor-elect, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, has expressed appreciation to the people of the state for bestowing the mandate to govern them on him.
In a statement signed by Mr Tahav Agerzua, Media Director of the Ortom/Abounu Governorship Campaign Organization, Chief Dr Ortom, attributed the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the elections nationwide and the state in particular to God’s intervention in human affairs and the determination of the people to effect change.
Chief Dr Ortom stated that the victory at the polls conferred on the APC a huge responsibility to turn around the fortunes of the state for the better stressing that the party cannot afford to toy with the responsibility which he described as sacred while noting that the people voted for change which they must get.
The Governor-elect pledged to rule with the fear of God which would translate to entrenching core values.
These, he said, would include truthfulness, selflessness, honesty, transparency, accountability, fairness, integrity, integration, justice, forgiveness and reconciliation, peace and unity stressing that with these development would be inevitable.
He enjoined politicians across the divides and indeed all citizens of the state to be civil and to exercise decorum in their conduct and speech, eschew violence and take every step to accelerate the process of healing and unification.
Chief Dr Ortom expressed appreciation to the Benue electorate, APC members, leaders and supporters as well as leaders and supporters of other political parties and all other stakeholders including the Ortom/Abounu Governorship Campaign Organization for their various roles in ensuring the smooth conduct of elections in the state.
He commended the state Governor, Dr Gabriel Suswam, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Prince Terhemen Tarzoor, and his campaign organization for accepting the results in good faith in the spirit of good sportsmanship.
The Governor-elect promised to promote excellence and merit above sycophancy and mediocrity so that the best talents could be harnessed wherever they are found.
He urged the people of the state to also reciprocate God’s goodness which he said made change possible by turning to Him in repentance and obedience so that He could heal the land.
The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade, and Investment, stated that the first step in the task of ensuring good governance was to engender the spirit of cooperation among the people so that all can make contributions to the task of eradicating poverty, ignorance and disease in the state.
He assured the people that he would unfold a plan of action with timelines including a program for the first 100 days and thereafter after assumption of office.
