Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, has donated a large flat screen television set and treadmill to the Senior Staff Club of the Benue State University, Makurdi.
Speaking at the presentation of the items at the club last weekend Chief Dr Ortom explained that the television set would enable members of the club to watch live matches of the 2014 World Cup while the mill would help keep them fit.
The Minister who also supervises the Aviation Ministry also paid the DSTV subscription of the club for one year.
He explained that as a member of the university community who has derived enormous benefits from the knowledge club members imparted to him it was important for him to contribute to their recreation in order to enable them to offer enhanced services.
Chief Dr Ortom who is a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State promised to create special time in the near future to interact with club members on his aspiration and vision for the state.
Receiving the items President of the Benue State University Senior Staff Club, Professor Msugh Kembe, represented Dr John Tsua, expessed appreciation and said the set and mill would add value to members.
He stated that the club also has other problems including lack of a standby power generation set and appealed for help.
Other club members who spoke including Professors Toryina Varvar and Joseph Kerker also appreciated the gesture adding that Chief Dr Ortom had donated chairs to the club before.
The speakers maintained that although Chief Dr Ortom had not formally declared his ambition to them they were aware of his antecedents as a shrewd manager of men and resources whose business outfits have offered employment to many.
They encouraged him to make time to share his aspirations with the entire university community.
Club officials announced conferment of automatic club membership on members of the minister’s entourage.
