Governor Samuel Ortom has pledged that his administration would sustain the partnership between the state and the church so as to accelerate the pace of development.
He also called on Christians to continue to pray against anything that could make him lose the focus of offering the best for the people of the State.
The Governor spoke at a thanksgiving service organized by an Abuja based business man Mr. Asema Achado which coincided with the first mass by Reverend Father Victor Uvihi and the foundation laying of the new SS Peter and Paul Parish Church, Aliade in Gwer local government area.
According to him the church had excelled in the provision of health and educational services and noted that its institutions in the sectors were doing well in the state and urged that they be sustained.
Governor Ortom appealed that the church should also diversify into agriculture on a large scale basis.
He restated his administration’s readiness to run government in accordance with international best practices saying it was in realization of this objective that he had always warned his appointees to be exemplary in providing leadership for the people.
The Governor congratulated the new Priest, Reverend Uvihi, and wished him well in his vocation.
In separate comments, Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Akange Audu, Senator George Akume, represented by his wife, Mrs. Regina Akume both expressed commitment to assisting the church and promised that they would encourage other people to do same.
Also speaking, Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Most Reverend Wilfred Anagbe announced plans by the Diocese to partner with the Catholic Church in Germany in finding ways of benefitting from its program to promote progress of the Diocese.
He commended Governor Ortom for keeping to his promise of always standing by the church.
Earlier in a sermon, the priest of Saint Joseph Catholic Mission Nyiman and Director of Communications, Very Reverend Father Moses Iorapuu had enjoined Christians to support priests to excel.
House of Representatives member for Gwer/Gwer West Engr. Mark Gbillah urged those in positions of authority to provide leadership with the fear of God in recognition of His supremacy and described the initiative to build the church as commendable.
Governor Ortom also inaugurated Benysta Hotel Aliade constructed Mr. Achado during which he stressed the need for other well to do individuals to take a cue from the outfit as his administration was ready to encourage the private sector in the state to thrive.
