Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has inaugurated Visitation Panels to examine the administrative structure, finances and academic performances of Colleges of Education Oju and Katsina-Ala, as well as Benue Polytechnic, Ugbokolo.
Speaking during the ceremony at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, Governor Ortom said the Visitation Panels were expected to look into the overall running of the affected tertiary institutions, the area of revenue accruing to them, its expenditure, transparency, accountability and observance of due process.
He said the Panels would also advise the State Government on policies and practices as well as total academic and physical development and direction of the institutions to ascertain whether or not the desired targets have been met and what modifications could be made to achieve maximum productivity, excellence and service to the state.
Governor Ortom urged members of the Panels to consider their mandate as a call to service which requires total commitment, expressing confidence in the ability of the members to deliver.
He appealed to the academic community in the state to show understanding with the Government as it is doing everything within its power to pay their salaries despite the dwindling economy.
The Governor said tertiary institutions must adjust their operations and manage resources at their disposal prudently.
The Visitation Panel for College of Education Oju has Professor Oga Ajene as Chairman, Professor Joseph Alakali, Engineer Ejoga Inalegwu, Mr. Ver Agelaga, Dr. (Mrs) Christie Ogoma Anyogo are members, while Mr. Ikuluke Chia is Secretary.
The College of Education Katsina-Ala Visitation Panel is made up of Professor Alloy Ihua as Chairman, Dr. Vitalis Tarhule, Engineer Steve Chia, Dr. Cephas Tushima and Professor Tony Edo as members, while Mr. Gabriel Kegh is Secretary.
Professor Yakubu Ochefu is Chairman of the Benue Polytechnic Visitation Panel with Professor Ogoh Alubo, Dooshima Adaa, Mr. Philip Anza and Professor Michael Ochogwu as members, while Mr. Igbana Kwaghzan is Secretary.
The Panels have one month to submit their reports.
