Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Benue State, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, has charged the high command of his campaign organization to trust in God for victory even as he called for prayers for the leadership of the party particularly Governor Gabriel Suswam.
He spoke at his Makurdi residence where campaign directors and advisers met with him on his return from Abuja where he had gone to submit his expression of interest and nomination form at the national secretariat.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths,” he exhorted them quoting from Proverbs chapter three verses five and six.
The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade, and Investment said the challenges of the times call for concerted prayers for the leadership of the party especially Governor Suswam and other party leaders in the state as they grapple with them.
Chief Dr Ortom reiterated the injunction of the Bible that Christians should pray for their leaders who he said were contending with principalities and powers of darkness at all times rather than criticizing them.
He said he would embark on consultations with delegates across all the local governments in the state maintaining that he was sure of victory at the end of the day.
The aspirant stressed that challenges were platforms for testimonies and urged the directors and advisers to redouble efforts to win the support of delegates.
Chief Dr Ortom sang his campaign anthem with them.
“We are able to go up and take Benue State,
To possess the state from north to the south;
Though the giants maybe on our way to hinder,
God will surely give us the victory, victory.
Only move on to the righteous side,
Move on to the righteous side,
Move on to the righteous with God. ”
The aspirant urged his supporters to move to the righteous side with God by living in obedience to him in accordance with Job 36 verse 11 in order to enjoy his blessings.
The former Minister said he would hold a meeting with the command and all the local government coordinators in the state early next week to strategize on moving the campaign to the next level.
In separate responses, Deputy Director General, Zone C, Mr Joseph Odaudu, and Director, Contacts and Mobilization, Engr Okpe Onah, expressed confidence in Chief Dr Ortom’s capacity to provide leadership as governor of the state and assured him that his team was intact and absolutely loyal to his aspiration.
